30 Dec miracles still happen
As many of you know, my friend and collaborator, David Cato, was rushed to the hospital and given slim chance of survival the week before Christmas. Unconscious and non-responsive, already compromised by a tough recent bout with his autoimmune disease, this man with a huge heart was losing his battle against an infection of unknown origin, and his systems were shutting down.
He was on a ventilator, with his life hanging in the balance when many of you heard and began to pray. Miracles still happen! On Christmas Eve David awoke. It was a few more days before I learned that he was back among us, in the wide-awake world of the talking and living… albeit very weak. . . and with a way to go before he was entirely out of danger.
He has now been moved out of critical care, and with each day is gaining strength, always having someone from among his friends and family with him. . .Today he is talking normally, eating solid foods, walking a few steps. His infection is gone. He is off antibiotics and the goal now is to get him ambulatory, get his blood pressure under control and off oxygen. He has been moved to a rehab facility.
His friend, Melodie, wrote me, “What a difference a week and thousands of prayers make. I received the BEST POSSIBLE Bday/Christmas present… David!!”
Thank you for your prayers and for the flood of private emails asking how David is doing. I waited until my news was firm to tell you for sure that miracles still happen!
This Christmas will always be remembered by me as the one in which I put up no tree, nor hung any festive lights, forgoing all the usual trappings in order to spend it simply with our daughter in Vermont. . . but this will always be The Christmas that restored my wonder in its combination of miracle and austerity. . . the Christmas the starry heaven opened to give me a glimpse of eternity still rushing those of us on earth, seeking to fuse with us in our weakness and frailty, breathing life in us anew.
Looking forward to this incredible, intriguing New Year of 2012–a year rich in speculation and ancient prophecy–a year in which each and every day is already known by our Lord, holding His plans and purposes for us, brimming over with opportunity for us to grow in our realization of how He is personally leading guiding correcting and teaching us.
We’ll resume our conversation on the divine dialogue…. Jan 12th, 2012.
Love, Valerie
