Christmas Wonder

Christmas Wonder

Lest my words get in the way, they will be few . . . this week I share two videos, two brief moments of imagery and music to help you find that most elusive of places in the rush and clamor of this season—that place where we are bathed in wonder.

Christmas is the divine dialogue of eternity being spoken into time… a story, which is not a fable, but the almost incomprehensible proclamation of what The Creator has undertaken on our behalf.  If we hear what He is telling us through this story—if we hear it in our spirit, the only part of us that can hear Him—we will be filled with wonder.

Wonder is a gift—a place to which we are brought—where our vision of the incomprehensible humbles, ravishes and ignites our soul. In wonder the vision of what God is revealing has such power, that it renders as inconsequential everything that would try to assail its truth or take its joy from us.
I pray for wonder for you this Christmas—light from beyond all other light suffusing your earthy frame with His ethereal otherness. May the revelation of what He has done fill you with wonder, breathing His brightness into you, lifting you above all that would try to keep you from the realization of His gift to you, Himself.

As a private note, I want to ask for your prayers for my friend and collaborator David Cato. For over a year he has been bringing to life the images I see in my mind.  He created every visual sprinkled throughout this website.   Today he lies unconscious, lingering between life and death in intensive care in Atlanta, septic from an unknown source, on a ventilator. I am personally stricken, feeling such great loss–unable to believe that his life hangs in so fragile a balance. David is humble, professional, sweet, dear, a great encourager, and so greatly gifted. He is precious. Please hold him up in prayer with me. . . that he might be drenched with the living presence of our Lord with him, where he is, and that he might be brought back to us.

Much needed information is irretrievabley locked away in my friend’s mind. . . He holds all the logins, pass-codes, subscription lists, and wealth of experience, working with me week by week to make this website happen. . . I stumble without him, but how much more I miss his light, his thoughts, his self-efacing humor, his heart.

This week’s message about wonder has given me a place of refuge. The videos have caused strength to surge in my heart, making me more grateful than ever that we’ve been given Christmas.

Thank you, Valerie
